Day 18 'Threatened, Endangered, Extinct'
The Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) lives on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. It is the only surviving tiger population in the Sunda Islands, where the Bali and Javan tigers are extinct. Sumatran tigers are the smallest and most brightly coloured of the six subspecies of tiger - they're also one of the most endangered with fewer than 400 left in the wild. Habitat loss and poaching continue to be their greatest threats.
