A visual diary! Isolation Art 2020

As New Zealand went into a Level 4 Lockdown on the 26th of March 2020 I decided to create a 'visual diary' of this worldwide historical event.

I had a cradled wood panel in my studio , so I divided it up into a grid of 25 squares, each 120mm x 120mm. Here is my diary - the 1st 25 days of Level 4 Lockdown in New Zealand.

Day 1, 26/03/2020: 'Jolly Roger teddy bear' - New Zealand followed people overseas by placing teddy bears in windows for children to go on a 'bear hunt' around their neighbourhoods.

NZ has 283 cases of Covid-19 confirmed today.

Day 2, 27/03/2020: 'Dettol hand-wash' - Clean your hands often. Use soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand rub.

NZ has 368 cases of Covid-19 confirmed today.

Day 3, 28/03/2020: 'House plant' - Having some nature around me inside makes me happy and it's good for you.

NZ has 451 cases of Covid-19 confirmed today.

Day 4, 29/03/2020: 'Agave' - Being able to walk around my property and look at the majesty of Mother Nature.

NZ has our 1st death from Covid-19 and 541 cases confirmed today.

 Day 5, 30/03/2020: 'Lemon tree' - I appreciate having lemons growing in the garden, great for cooking and Gin and tonic.

NZ has 589 cases of Covid-19 confirmed today.

Day 6, 31/03/2020: 'Tui in the tree outside my window' - As many of you know, I love birds, I often feed them apples and oranges and they make me happy when I can sit and watch them. (helps pass the time)

NZ has 647 cases of Covid-19 confirmed today.

 Day 7, 01/04/2020: 'Books' - Isolating with books, can take you off to other places in your imagination. (helps pass the time)

NZ has 708 cases of Covid-19 confirmed today.

 Day 8, 02/04/2020: 'Walking shoes' - Walking the dog around my neighbourhood getting fresh air and exercise(and keeping me sane) we are lucky to have the sea and a park within a 10 minute walk from our house.

NZ has 797 cases of Covid-19 confirmed today.

Day 9, 03/04/2020: 'Coffee cup' - Happy to have a good supply of Nespresso coffee capsules. Lucky to have a coffee made for me every morning #thanksgarry

NZ has 868 cases of Covid-19 confirmed today.

Day 10, 04/04/2020: 'Beetroot plants' - Our vegetable garden has come into it's own over this isolation period.

NZ has 950 cases of Covid-19 confirmed today.

Day 11, 05/04/2020: 'Toilet paper' - when coronavirus was confirmed in New Zealand, panic buying of toilet paper became a thing! Silly as we have toilet paper manufacturers in NZ.

NZ has 1039 cases of Covid-19 confirmed today.

Day 12, 06/04/2020: 'Beer' - We've been enjoying a nice cold beer out on our deck, having zoom calls with our friends , enjoying the last of the fine weather in our bubble.

NZ has 1106 cases of Covid-19 confirmed today.

Day 13, 07/04/2020: 'Louie' - Our lovely pup, who has enriched our family, makes us laugh everyday. Great for getting us to take a walk around the neighbourhood.

NZ has 1160 cases of Covid-19 confirmed today.

Day 14, 08/04/2020: 'Remote' - TVNZ, TV3, Netflix,Skytv, YouTube, we have been watching a lot more tv while in isolation.

NZ has 1210 cases of Covid-19 confirmed today.

Day 15, 09/04/2020: 'Sourdough bread' - Having the time and unable to go out ,everyone seems to have become bakers. I've made my own Sourdough Starter and I llove to bake bread! Just hard to buy flour!

NZ has 1239 cases of Covid-19 confirmed today.

Day 16, 10/04/2020: 'Trowel in the garden' - Struggled today, I needed nature and gardening. There is something to be said by getting your hands in the dirt. Very grounding.

NZ has our 2nd death from Covid-19 and 1283 cases confirmed today.

Day 17, 11/04/2020: 'Sunglasses' - And the sun keeps shining! We have been blessed with the most beautiful weather, my sunglasses have been worn so much. Great to be able to get outside while in isolation.

NZ has our 3rd & 4th death from Covid-19 and 1312 cases confirmed today.

Day 18, 12/04/2020: 'Eggs amd Easter eggs' - Eggs are so important for baking (and filling my son's hollow legs) and of course Easter eggs for a treat.

NZ has 1330 cases of Covid-19 confirmed today.

Day 19, 13/04/2020: 'F...you Gnome' - This is how I'm feeling about Covid-19 wreaking havoc on humanity.

NZ has our 5th death from Covid-19 and 1349 cases confirmed today.

Day 20, 14/04/2020: 'Noise cancelling headphones' - These have been VERY important for my sanity! I can listen to music and podcasts and my zoom lessons without everyone else in the house hearing them. Thanks to all those true reward points I was able to purchase these months before lockdown.

Day 21, 15/04/2020: 'Smithy' - Our gorgeous cat, spends his days curled up on the couch.Gives me affection when he's hungry.

NZ has 1386 cases of Covid-19 confirmed today.

Day 22, 16/04/2020: 'Painting tools' - this is just a drop in the ocean when it comes to my painting tools, but these are some I use just about every day.

NZ has 1401 cases of Covid-19 confirmed today.

Day 23, 17/04/2020: 'Glass of wine' - A nice cold glass of Sauvignon Blanc in the evening. Probably had a few more glasses than normal in this un-normal time.

NZ has our 10th & 11th death from Covid-19 and 1409 cases confirmed today.

Day 24, 18/04/2020: 'Monopoly' - Our family has played a lot more board games lately (and completed a few Wasgij's as well)

NZ has 1422 cases of Covid-19 confirmed today.

Day 25, 19/04/2020: 'My Bubble' - Or 'My House' - Where we (My husband, daughter, son and I) have spent our isolation.Just leaving for essentials and walking the dog. 

 

This has been a fun challenge to myself with a visual diary of this unusal time. Over 75 hours spent painting these 25 artworks.
